The Hobbton Wildcat soccer team got their delayed season off to a good start with a 4-1 win against the Raiders of Midway. After the rain-out on Monday, the field was still wet and sloppy. The officials stopped the match about halfway the second period due to field conditions.
Eber Gomez scored all four goals for the victorious Wildcats in the first period of play. The Wildcats were scheduled to play Goldsboro on Thursday. However, with more than half an inch of rain on an already wet field, the match may be delayed.
Alex Boggs scored Midway’s only goal.
Midway’s coach Allen McLamb said, “We were a little over confident. We handled North Brunswick pretty in a scrimmage. I told them not to get over confident. I could tell the way we were setting up that could happen and it would come back and bite us, and it did. We just had a lack of communication.”
