The Sampson Community College Foundation recently announced the appointment of Jeff Wall, general manager of Smithfield Clinton Plant, to its Board of Directors.
Wall and his family come to Clinton from Wilson, and he said he is excited to be able to work on behalf of the community college. Not only does Warren have an appreciation for the workforce training provided by SCC, he also has personally benefited from a community college education.
Dr. Paul Hutchins, SCC president, and Lisa Turlington, SCC Foundation executive director, recently met with Wall and conducted a tour of the campus. Turlington shared, “Jeff is going to be an asset to the Foundation Board, and he has already recognized opportunities for him and for Smithfield to support the college.”
Highlights of the orientation included a demonstration by nursing instructor Diana Shipp of the clinical simulator; observation of a building construction technology project with department chairmanBarney Grady; and a meeting with Dr. Steve Matthis, Dean of Occupational Programs while visiting the Animal Science classrooms.
Wall also toured the Ammonia Refrigeration Facility and met with instructor Shannon King.
“I am delighted to welcome Mr. Jeff Wall to our Foundation Board of Directors,” Hutchins said. “Jeff brings to the board a unique understanding of the role of community colleges in helping students reach their educational goals and enhancing the communities they serve. I know Jeff will be an active and energetic Foundation Board member.”
Wall, who said he looks forward to serving the students and staff through the SCC Foundation, also noted: “I am honored to be a part of such an engaged group of community leaders working to help educate people in Sampson County. Smithfield understands and appreciates the importance of the Community College in training and educating people for the workforce.”
