Playing rough on the field, the Clinton Dark Horse football team took on the Whiteville Wolfpack, but left with a losing score of 16-6.

Whiteville started the game off with a field goal and the 3-0 score would remain throughout the first quarter.

With 5:07 left in the second quarter, Clinton scored their one and only touchdown of the night. Two minutes later, the Wolfpack jumped back ahead with a touchdown to make the score 10-6.

Clinton’s defense did everything they could to block their opponents from the end zone, but Whiteville managed to get a field goal through. Only 7.4 seconds remained on the clock for the second quarter when Whiteville added another 3 points to the scoreboard going into halftime.

For the whole third quarter, Clinton and Whiteville battled it out on the field. With up to 3 minor injuries for Clinton, it would take everything they had to finish the game.

Finally reaching the fourth quarter, the Dark Horses continued to keep the Wolfpack from the end zone, but seemed powerless against the kick. Whiteville added another 3 points before the clock wound down to make the final score 16-6.

As for stats, Clinton had more to show. Rushing, Hyson Howard had 9 carries for 53 yards, Silas Herring had 11 carries for 41 yards, and Tyler McNeil had 6 carries for 20 yards.

Passing, Jonathan Wright passed 14 times with 4 completions for 45 yards and 1 interception.

Receiving, Silas Herring had 1 catch for 18 yards while Kris Royal had 2 catches for 17 yards.

On defense, Kevin West had 8 tackles, Kris Royal had 8 tackles, Roy Williams had 6 tackles, Elexus Raines had 6 tackles, Jacob Smith had 6 tackles, and Hyson Howard also had 6 tackles.

The Dark Horses are free next week and their next game will be September 27, homecoming night against Pender at 7:30 p.m.
