Midway’s soccer team moves up the ranks with a 5-1 win over Trask on Monday.
The Raiders had a 2-0 lead in the first half with a goal from Jonathan Garcia from an assist by Alex Boggs and a goal from Matt McLamb with an assist by Garcia.
With a few adjustments at halftime, the Raiders continued scoring. Alex Boggs put two in the back of the net and both were off of assists by Jonathan Espino. The final goal came from Garcia from an assist by E.J. Butler.
“It was a good solid game and everyone played hard. The whole team got in good playing time. We made a few adjustments at halftime that I believe will help us the rest of the season. It was a good conference win,” Head coach Alan McLamb said.
With a record of 5-3-2, they traveled to West Bladen on Wednesday. McLamb said that with this new conference, defeating the Knights was a must, despite several players out due to injuries.
Mid-fielder Justin Stephenson, a key player for the Raiders, will be out at least two weeks if not more, according to McLamb. “It’s hard to play with an injured right foot. I know he will be out for two weeks, but it may be longer. We’ll just have to make some adjustments and see who will step up,” he added.
The Raiders will host Union on Monday.
