Crusader varsity dominates Cannon, 75-7

Harrells Christian Academy dominated the Cannon School in varsity football Friday, winning by an incredible 75-7 final score.

The Crusaders scored 11 touchdowns and Kirk Smith kicked 7 of 9 point after touchdowns (PATs). Quarterback O.H. Rouse completed 2 of 4 passes for 72 yards with no interceptions and 1 TD reception. Kelly Nelms caught one for a 44 yard TD and Zack Carlton caught one for 28 yards.

Total rushing yardage for Harrells was 546 on 48 plays.

Nelms ate up the field with 224 yards in 8 carriers. Three of those were for TDs. He was followed by junior Sammy Dixon with 204 yards on 13 carriers. Four of his 13 crossed the end zone. Channing Kelly rushed 40 yards in 6 carries and two were for TDs, plus he scored 2 2-point conversions; and quarterback Rouse rushed 14 yards in two carries and one was for a TD.

On defense Nelms had 3 tackles; Dixon, 3 tackles, 1 fumble recovery, and 4 sacks; Nathan Casteen, 4; Ben Parker, 3; Fredrick Strickland, 6 tackles and 1 sack; Kelly, 4; and Rouse, 4 tackles and 1 sack; Justin Smith and Cole Hardison, each with 1 interception; Tristan Crumpler, 1 fumble recovery and 2 sacks.
