Midway hosted Pender Thursday night in junior varsity football and came away with a 44-6 victory.

The Raiders struck early as Dillon Lee scampered 42 yards for a touchdown at the 10:15 mark of the opening period. Terrell McGee ran for the 2 point conversion to make it 8-0.

After pinning the Patriots deep, the Raiders’ next possession started at the Pender 31. Two plays later Lee ran 21 yards and hit pay dirt again. The PAT failed and Midway led 14-0 with 7:11 left in the quarter.

The 2 teams exchanged interceptions before the end of the period. The Raiders got a pick 6 from Landon Dorman in closing minute of the quarter. Lee ran for 2 points and a 22-0 lead for the home team.

Before the quarter could end, the Patriots ran back the Raider kickoff to cut the lead to 22-6.

The Raiders’ next scoring opportunity came on a take away by James Hardee who literally stole the handoff from the Pender quarterback and sprinted to the 2 yard line. Larry Blanks took it in on the next play and then quarterback Austin Raynor found Lee for the 2 point pass play to make it 30-6 with 7:31 left in the half.

Less than 3 minutes later, Paris Smith got a pick 6 as he tallied 30 yards for a Raider score. The PAT failed and Midway led 36-6.

The Raiders’ last touchdown came after Hardee recovered a fumble and then Dashawn Tonge carried 15 yards for a 42-6 lead. Bryan Lucas ran for the 2 point conversion and final score of 44-6.

Neither team scored in the second half. The Raiders will visit Clinton next week.
