The Union Spartans soccer team defended their field proudly against Trask on Monday night, shutting out the Titans 3-0.
It took the Spartans almost all the first half to get their game going, but finally found the back of the net about 10 minutes before halftime.
Then five minutes later, Union scored again.
Defense was the word in the second half, but with 10 minutes left before the end of the game, the Spartans scored again.
“Overall I think we looked a lot better, and our defense stepped up pretty well. It took us a while to get going on offense, but once we finally got started, we were moving the ball well,” Spartan head coach David Ameen stated.
“We didn’t score for the better part of the first half, but once we found our nitch and started playing the way we play, everything began to fall into place. Some of my younger guys got a chance to play, and they really stepped up too,” he continued.
Spartan Caesar Cárdenas scored 1 goal; then Brian Aquena put the ball in the back of the net off of an assist by Chayanne Lopez; and Arcenio Najera, assisted by Eliaz Gonzalez, scored the final goal.
Union is now 7-3 in conference, and 9-3-1 overall.
Union travels to the Dog Pen on Wednesday to face Wallace-Rose Hill.
