Personally, I am a firm believer that together we can accomplish more than one of us could individually. Through volunteers, sponsors, and donations, many of the activities and organizations are able to offer services and special projects to those within Sampson County. I am honored to be a part of a community that comes together to assist each other in accomplishing a common goal — to increase the quality of life within Sampson County.
Speaking specifically, I would like to thank each sponsor and community partner as we are gearing up for the fourth annual signature project, the Chamber Coat Closet. We are looking forward to another great year of “giving the gift of warmth this winter.” While the coat collection will officially begin on Nov. 1 and run through the month of November, it is not too early to begin cleaning out your closets. Our goal is to collect coats in November and distribute these coats within Sampson and surrounding counties prior to Christmas.
This year, in addition to sponsorships, we are looking forward to the continued partnerships and involvement from our business community. One exciting partnership is with Sweet Frog, located at 935 Sunset Ave. in Clinton. I encourage you to visit Sweet Frog in Clinton on Thursday, Oct. 17, between 5 and 8 p.m. as a portion of sales on that day will go towards purchasing coats for the 2013 Coat Closet Project. What a great evening to be able to enjoy frozen yogurt, take your picture with Cookie and Scoop, buy local, and support the Coat Closet.
We are also very excited about the partnership between the Coat Closet and Ford of Clinton. For every vehicle Ford of Clinton sells within the month of November, $25 per vehicle will go towards purchasing coats from local retailers for the 2013 Chamber Coat Closet. I encourage you to stop by Ford of Clinton at 213 Southeast Blvd. and let them assist you with your next vehicle as you again, buy local and support the Coat Closet Project.
We are honored that the high school Key Clubs have chosen to participate in this signature project as we are having a friendly competition amongst the members on coat collection. Thank you to Kiwanis of Clinton, for the Key Club that collects the most coats will receive $100 in prize money that can be used for a celebratory pizza party or a night out at Sweet Frog.
Lastly, our annual kickoff event will be at the Chamber Office on Nov. 1, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. We encourage you to help us spread the word for the community to clean out their closets and drop off their coats at the Chamber Office (414 Warsaw Road, Clinton) on Nov. 1 or within the month of November at one of the 35 drop off locations throughout Sampson County.
