As they have done all season, the Dark Horses dominated on the football field against their Four County Conference rivals. On Friday, Clinton took the win against the West Bladen Knights, 42-29.
The Knights got the scoring going by crossing the goal line first, but at the 5:33 mark Dark Horse Silas Herring scored for Clinton’s first TD followed by a two point conversion to move Clinton ahead 8-7. Three minutes later, Lajuan Ashley caught a pass and scored a TD. With an extra point and a score of 15-7, Clinton remained in the lead.
One minute into the second quarter, Clinton crossed the goal line again. A kick after gave the Dark Horses a nice cushion on the scoreboard, 22-7.
The grand halftime show performed by Clinton High School’s Marching Band had the fans and the team energized for the second half.
Jacob Smith scored a touchdown for the Horses at 7:01 in the third quarter. Exactly one minute later, West Bladen returned the favor by scoring a TD. With a score of 29-14, Clinton struggled to stay ahead.
Entering the fourth quarter of the night, the Knights from West Bladen put 8 more points on the board to make the score 29-22. They were closing in, but the Dark Horses had other plans.
They managed to get into the end zone to bump the score up again, 35-22.
Never giving up, the Knights put their final TD on the board at 1:58. The Dark Horses were just as determined and with only 58.3 seconds to play, Clinton Senior Silas Herring crashed through the field and into the end zone for a final score of 42-29.
Silas Herring made his own path through the field with an awesome 261 yards on 22 carries and 3 touchdowns. Julian Wilkins had 16 carries for 68 yards, and Kris Royal had 9 carries for 40 yards on rushing.
Jonathan Wright was successful with his air game, with five completed passes for 81 yards and 2 touchdowns. On the receiving end was Lajuan Ashley with a 50-yard TD catch and Jacob Smith with 2 catches for 29 yards and 1 touchdown.
On defense, Wade Sumner had 10 tackles, Kris Royal had 8 tackles, Roy Williams had 7 tackles, Jacob Smith had 6 tackles and 2 sacks, and T.J. Boone had 6 tackles.
The Dark Horses will play next week at Trask High School at 7:30 p.m.
