Long-time Midway coach retiring

December 9, 2013

Long-time Midway High School head football coach Tommy Sloan has announced his retirement from the team he has led twice over the span of nearly 30 years.

A press release from the school noted that search process would begin shortly to find another football coach. No timetable has been set for that process.

Sloan served as the varsity football coach from 1973 until 1998, then returned again to Midway High in 2009, taking his spot again as head coach.

During his tenure, Sloan’s teams have won 214 games, lost only 127, brought home a state championship in 1978 and a state runner-up title in 1988.

His retirement becomes effective at the end of the first semester, which comes in early January.
