Taking on West Bladen High School, the Clinton Lady Dark Horses took home a win of 76-49.
Starting off the first quarter with a lead, the Horses managed to stay on top of the ball. With a first period score of 23-10, the Horses had a lead that they could work with.
As the game continued, the Lady Dark Horses would keep their lead. With Mikayla Boykin playing well, the Horses continued to score. At halftime, the score was 43-25, a healthy lead for the Horses.
Coming back on the court, Clinton and West Bladen continued to battle. West Bladen refused to give up, but couldn’t get anything going against the Dark Horse defense. The third quarter ended with a score of 60-40.
Entering the last quarter of the night, the Horses kept their foot on the throttle. On defense, the Horses only allowed their opponents 9 more points.On the other hand, Clinton raised their score by 16 points, ending the night with a winning score of 76-49.
Leading scorers for Clinton were Mikayla Boykin with 38 points, Brielle Mitchell with 18 points, Kristen Glasper with 7 points, and Jasmine Fryar with 5 points.
Next up, the Varsity boys played host to West Bladen. The boys played a competitive game, ending with a score of 50-47, in favor of West Bladen.
As the first quarter began, Clinton and West Bladen were nose to nose. After many ties and lead changes, the Horses managed a 4 point lead at the end of the first quarter, 10-6.
Taking control, West Bladen held the lead when the second quarter came to a close. Coming out with a close score of 20-18, the Horses had to fight to get in the lead.
After a halftime show of the new Clinton High School Dance Team, the Horses were back on the court and ready for war. As James Evans took control on the court, Clinton ended the third quarter with a lead of 40-34. With one quarter left, the Horses had to switch it up.
With the time ticking, Clinton and West Bladen were back and forth. Scoring their last basket and holding the ball, West Bladen won the game with a score of 50-47.
Leading scorers for Clinton were James Evans with 12 points, Michael Boykin with 11 points, RayQuan Faison with 9 points, Jalen Banks with 5 points, and Jermiah Pope and Thaxter Spruil with 2 points.
Clinton will play again Friday, January 17 at home against Trask High School at 6 p.m.
