A 19-year-old Sampson County man was jailed late Friday afternoon and charged in connection with a break-in that occurred on Clive Jacobs Road shortly before he was taken into custody.

Jerrise Jaquan McNeil of 824 Clive Jacobs Road, Clinton, is facing three felony offenses — breaking and/or entering, larceny and possession of stolen goods.

According to Sampson Sheriff’s Corporal Marcus Smith, the victim in the case returned to their residence and noticed that someone had forced their way into the home. The homeowner, he added, also noticed someone walking near the residence and approached the man, observing that some of their personal property had fallen to the ground from inside the man’s clothing.

A fight, Smith said, broke out when the homeowner questioned the man about the belongings.

Officers were called to the scene and following an investigation, McNeil was taken into custody.

He was placed under a $25,000 bond and is expected to make his first appearance in Sampson County District Court Jan. 17.
