A cold shooting Midway Raider team saw their conference record fall to 5-1 Friday night as they fell to West Bladen 43-38 at Midway.

The Raiders trailed 9-6 after 1 period and 22-16 at halftime. West Bladen led 29-28 at the end of 3 quarters.

In the closing stanza, Jamarrious Baggett emerged from the bench with 2 quick baskets and the home team grabbed a 32-29 lead.

The Knights responded and the score was tied at 33 with 4:54 remaining in the game. The Raiders’ inability to hit from the outside allowed the visitors to go up 37-33, even while struggling at the free throw line.

Foul shots by Justin Thompson got Midway within 2 at 39-37 at the 1:44 mark. Josh Minnick added another to make it 39-38, but the Raiders would score no more. The Knights went on to connect on free throws for the 5 point win.

“Great job by West Bladen ,” asserted Raider head coach Leonard Henry. “They came in focused and hit some critical shots and they did what they had to do. We left a lot of unfinished plays on the floor, shots that we’ve made all year long.”

Quincy Baggett paced the home team with 14 points. Andre Sankey and Jamarrious Baggett added 6 each. Justin Thompson, Jordan Thompson, and Minnick each posted 4.

The Raiders fall to 14-2 overall. West Bladen is 4-2 in the Four County Conference and 10-6 overall.

In junior varsity action, Midway defeated West Bladen 78-51. Paris Smith and Larry Blanks scored 15 each to lead the Raiders. Shyheim Small added 11. Darius Perez, Michael Kramer, and J. D. Lockamy contributed 7 each. Midway is 13-1 overall and 6-0 in conference play.

Midway will host Union on Wednesday.
