Union battled it out with Trask on their home basketball court Monday night. Due to weather conditions, the game originally scheduled for Tuesday was moved up to Monday. The Spartans were unable to find the winning formula, and fell to the Titans, 29-46.

The Spartans struggled offensively in the first half, scoring only 8 points in the first and second quarters combined. Trask had no difficulty finding the basket, and had tacked on 24 points by the sound of the buzzer. The two teams left the court at halftime with a score of 24-8, Titans leading. Union came out hustling hard in the third, but only managed to add 10 points to their end of the scoreboard, while Trask scored 8. The Titans began speeding up their offense again in the fourth, and finished out the game by adding 14 points, and holding Union to only score 11. Union came up short in the end, and Trask soared past them for the win, 46-29.

Leading scorers for Union were Brandon Lovette with 9 points, Dezmond Faison with 9 points, Jajuan Newkirk with 6 points.

Spartan Head Coach Tim Pope said, “Again tonight, we struggled offensively putting the ball in the basket, scoring only 8 points in the first half. However, we came out the second half and put 21 points on the board, which meant an improvement offensively. Brandon Lovette, Dezmond Faison, and Jamar Newkirk were really good for us tonight. Coach Ore and Trask have a really good team, he’s done well with them. They shot the ball well, but ran a good defense and were able to hold them to only 46 points. Weather permitting, we’ll come back and get to work to get ready for Wallace.”

Union’s game scheduled for Friday night against Wallace is postponed until next Saturday, at Wallace.
