The cast of “Dixie Swim Club” took their last lap around the pool this past Sunday afternoon to an appreciative audience who laughed a lot and were very generous with their applause as Janet Rawls, Sarah Burton, Olivia Bass-Stafford, Gretta Steffens and Sandra Clifton took their last bows.
The show was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone who took advantage of the chance to see it. The last performance had an extra special dramatic flavor to it when about an hour before curtain time director Kathy Day received a phone call from one of the cast members who related she was unable to get to the theater by starting time because her car had broken down in Wilmington. Kathy explained the situation to the seated audience and further stated that the cast had been plagued with snowstorms, sleet, slick roads and she expected a plague of frogs or locusts to be next. The missing cast member got to the theater about 30 minutes late and the audience cheered and whistled when the curtains finally parted and the cast gave one of their best performances in response. So as William Shakespear noted “All’s Well That Ends Well” and even wrote a play about it.
Many thanks to Owens Home Furnishing for the set furniture and everyone that was involved with this production.
The set built for “Dixie Swim Club” by Dan Holland and Gary Wilson will be used by Tom Wilbur and his cast of “Barefoot In The Park” with only some minor modifications changing it from a beach cottage on the Outer Banks to a 5th floor apartment in the Big Apple. Clinton Appliance and Furniture is sponsoring “Barefoot In The Park” and will be providing tables, chairs and other furniture for the set.

Thoughts until next week:
• Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.
• Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.
• The best years of your life are the ones in which you decide your problems are your own. You do not blame them on your mother, the ecology or the President. You realize tht you control your own destiny.
