Rehearsal under way for ‘Barefoot’

By Dr. Bruce Caldwell Contributing columnist

March 13, 2014

There are no five-story apartment buildings in Sampson County so you will learn something of their disadvantages by watching “Barefoot In The Park” coming to the Sampson Community Theatre in April. The big stage of the theater becomes the 5th floor apartment of Paul Bratter (Nick Owen) and Corie Bratter (Erica Miller) who are newlyweds just moving into their first apartment. An upstairs neighbor is Victor Velasco (Gary Wilson) and Corie’s protective mother is Mrs. Banks (Gretta Steffens) while the telephone repairman is Gary Melvin.

This is a veteran cast that Tom Wilbur is currently directing in rehearsals in a mature comedy by Neil Simon that is very dependent on timing so more than the usual number of rehearsals are necessary. You will laugh until your side hurts as the cast goes through their hilarities, and you will be entertained through every scene. Thanks to Clinton Appliance and Furniture for their sponsorship and furnishing the furniture for the set.

Erica Miller has been a frequent participitent at the Sampson Community Theatre since she appeared as one of the Von Trapp children in “The Sound Of Music” in 1988. She has had roles in “Cinderella,” “To Kill A Mockingbird” and most recently in “Rent” and “Hairspray.” She appears to be born to play Corie Bratter because she is perky, sassy, and emotional. You will not want to miss seeing her in “Barefot In The Park” as she plays her part to perfection.

2014 Patron Sponsor tickets are now available for a donation to the theater. These consist of two complimentary tickets to every show we produce in 2014. Contact any Board Member to obtain yours and be entertained all year. If you would like a Gift Certificate for family members or friends they may be obtained for half the Patron Sponsor donation and you may get as many as you like by calling 990-4510.
