Last week, the Chamber’s Adult Leadership participants explored Raleigh during State Government Day. The 11 leaders explored the State Capitol, the Department of Agriculture and the Legislative Building, including walking on the floor of the senate with Sampson’s Sen. Brent Jackson.

In the afternoon, the group sat down with North Carolina Secretary of State Elaine Marshall and North Carolina State Auditor Beth Wood. Throughout the busy day, the participants discovered how each of these government sectors assists the state of North Carolina and Sampson County.

Leadership members included myself, Sherrill Allen, First Citizens Bank – State Government Committee Leader; Catherine Ezzell, Ezzell Trucking; Leroy Six, US Cellular; Jonathan Allen, City of Clinton; Larry McPhail, Ford of Clinton; Wesley Johnson, Sampson County Schools; Matt Johnson, Schindler Elevator Corporation; Stephen Harrison, Star Telephone Membership Corporation; James Gillispie, Sampson Community College; and Aaron Wilson, Wilcare Inc.

The mission of the Leadership Clinton-Sampson is to provide a continuous, diverse supply of creative leaders to the county by developing their knowledge of the community and providing them the opportunity for meaningful action. This eight-month program wraps up in May and is designed to provide leaders broad exposure to issues and opportunities facing Sampson County, as well as meet our need for the active involvement of diverse, informed & responsible community leaders.
