Midway’s Boggs wins 800 meter run in regional

Two local track teams traveled to Pinecrest High School Saturday to participate in the 2A Mideast Track and Field Regional. Midway will send 5 athletes to the State Championship this weekend, while the Clinton Dark Horses will have 4 participants.

Midway’s Alex Boggs won the 800 meter run with a time of 2.06.14, ahead of Graham’s Hayden Wiles. Josh-Rees Jones of the School of Science and Math finished third.

The Raiders’ Travis Dawson took 3rd place in the 100 meter dash. His time of 11.06 was behind Ashton Avery of Bunn and Tyleek McNair of Fairmont.

Midway’s 4x8 relay team also advanced to the State Championship Saturday in Greensboro. The group, consisting of J. D. Lockamy, Alex Bradley, Ritchel Cousar, and Boggs, finished 4th posting a time of 8:44. The winning team was from the School of Science and Math, followed by Graham and Carrboro.

For the Darkhorses, their 4x2 relay team of Seth Harrington, Albert Deaver, Raheem Skinner, and Josh Armwood claimed a 3rd place finish. Their time of 1:33.33 was just behind Bunn (1:31.22) and T. W. Andrews (1:31.60). The top 4 finishers in any event advance to the state finals.

Overall, in team scoring, Midway was 12th, while Clinton was 15th. T. W. Andrews, from High Point, and Carrboro were first and second respectively.

The Lady Dark Horses posted a 12th place finish. Brielle Mitchell narrowly missed a trip to Greensboro with a 6th place finish in the 100 meter dash. She placed 7th in the 200.

T. W. Andrews took first place in the women’s meet, followed by Carrboro.

The State Championship Meet will be Saturday at North Carolina A & T University in Greensboro.
