Larry McPhail loves children and he loves giving back to the community, particularly supporting anything that is geared toward young people.
It’s obvious from the smile that spread across his face every time he’s caught around young people, whether they are FFA members receiving scholarships from Ford of Clinton or children running up to say thank you to him for purchasing scoreboards for Sampson County Parks and Recreation athletic fields.
It’s that one-two punch of love for children and love for community that brought McPhail back a second year as a sponsor of The Sampson Independent’s Cutest Kids Contest, this year as title sponsor.
The contest, already under way at www.clintonnc.com, is, McPhail said, a great way to promote children, bringing attention to their adorable faces and melt-your-heart smiles.
“This is a great contest,” McPhail said, citing last year’s success as yet another reason Ford of Clinton jumped on the bandwagon to sponsor the contest for another year
That’s why both decided to join The Sampson Independent in promoting them through the 2013 Cutest Kids Contest, already under way at www.clintonnc.com.
Along with category sponsors Perrine, Wiley and Potts (9-120, Ellis Lewis Auto (Toddler), White Swan (Newborn), Clinton City Schools(7-8), Sampson County Schools (2-3) and Sampson Regional Medical Center (4-6), Ford of Clinton is offering family members a chance to let their children shine through the contest, which awards bragging rights and some nifty cash prizes to the winners in each category, as well as the overall winner and Cutest Kid.
The overall Cutest Kids winner will receive a $100 and the category winners will receive $50 each. And all, said Sherry Matthews, SI editor and community relations manager, will receive those all-important bragging rights for being the cutest kids around.
McPhail, who really got into the theme Cutest Kid with ads that show him in full baby gear, said he liked to do things a little differently, hence why he liked the idea of the contest so much.
“I like living a little on the edge. This contest is fun, unique, and it promotes our young people. It’s all the things I love,” McPhail stressed.
Showing support of children in a variety of ways is a focus for McPhail and Ford of Clinton, and the Cutest Kids Contest, he said, affords him the opportunity to be a part of something special.
“Showing support for kids is important. Letting them know there are people out there other than their parents who care about them and are pulling for them is also important. I think the contest does all that and a lot more,” the Ford of Clinton owner said.
Entering the contest is easy. All one has to do is visit www.clintonnc.com, click on the Cutest Kids icon, which often rotates with other contest ads, and then follow the easy steps to ensure your child becomes a participant. Rules are also outlined on the site.
There is no charge to enter. All one has to have is a valid email address.
Entry into the contest continues through next Saturday, June 14, with voting getting under way at midnight on Sunday, June 15.
Voting continues through 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 28, with winners being announced the following week.
“This is a great contest,” said Matthews. “Every year we have held the contest, it has been fun for us, the sponsors and those who have participated. I love looking at all those smiling faces. We have some adorable children, that’s for sure.”
Matthews also offered her thanks to McPhail and all the category sponsors for their willingness to support the contest and the children.
“Without them, this contest would not be possible. We urge you to thank them every time you see one of the sponsors, and to support their businesses every chance you can.”
