The attached picture was made in October 1908 and is a celebration of John DeVane Lindsay’s 72nd birthday. John was a Civil War veteran, wounded twice, and died in 1914 at his home in the “Land of Goshen” in upper Sampson County.
The little baby in the arms of my grandmother, Lona Franklin Weeks Lindsay, is my father Algia (Buddy Lindsay) who operated the county store at Hobbton for 45 years. My father had six brothers and one sister. The boys on the front row are his older brothers. His sister Sally is standing beside her mother. Identification of others will be posted in forthcoming columns.
Our 68th annual reunion will be at Goshen United Methodist Church Sunday, July 27th. Guest are cordially invited. Velva Boyette Lindsay, wife of Franklin Lindsay, is bringing her famous, well known chicken pastry. Would love to have you. You are welcome to bring a dish of your choice to share with us. A wonderful desert or some of those good butter beans will go quickly.
We Lindsay’s eat about everything. We sing a lot, with Judy Lindsay Lewis leading us in about every song you want to request.
