Sex offense charges leveled

A 20-year-old Raleigh man is facing five sexual felonies involving two underage girls after an investigation into the incident led officers to him.

Brandon Avila, of 2555 Melvid Court was charged Thursday afternoon with two counts of first degree sex offense with a child and three counts taking indecent liberties with a child.

Contacted Friday, Sampson Sheriff’s Lt. Marcus Smith could only provide sketchy details about the case, noting that when incidents involve minors very little can be said about what took place.

What is known is that Avila is now accused of sexually assaulting two 14-year-old girls. The complaints were filed in 2013.

“That is really all I can tell you at this point,” Smith stressed.

Avila was placed under a $200,000 bond and remained in the Sampson County Detention Center Friday. He is scheduled to make his first appearance n Sampson District Court Aug. 1.
