Momentum at rehearsals for “Disney’s Little Mermaid, Jr.” has definitely increased over the past week at the Sampson Community Theatre as the 100-plus kids, ages 4-15, perfect their lines and dance steps in preparation for opening night in only one week.
Next week the cast will be in dress rehearsal, especially the “Seashells” cast who will be performing Friday, Aug. 8 and Saturday, Aug. 9 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 10 at 3 p.m. There was no tension during rehearsals this week because everyone has diligently learned their lines and lyrics so that practices go quickly and smoothly. You are going to love the way these youngsters have applied themselves and you will be amazed at the talent that has been discovered. It is now time for you to pick up your tickets at Inkspot or at Matthews Gifts and be ready for our summer children’s show. Hats off to sweetFrog, the home of premium frozen yogurt, who is sponsoring this show.
The casts are not the only folks working hard on this show because Anne Wicke, Natalie Jackson, Gary Wilson and Madison Holland have been painting our beautiful backdrops and side panels for this colorful show since “Grease” finished its run. There are 20 scenes in this show which means the backstage crew will be unusually busy. Tracey Kirkland, Anna Beth Clark, Rosa Guzman and Logan Tart will be handling the heavy work getting the backdrops and side panels in place and seeing that the required props are in place
The large number of children that auditioned and got a part have been split into three casts and there will now be a total of nine shows presented over three weekends. One cast named “Seashells” will perform on Aug. 8, 9 and 10. Another cast named “Sunshine” will perform on Aug. 15, 16 and 17. The remaining cast named “Saltwater” will perform on Aug. 22, 23 and 24. You may find out the names of the actors in each cast by visiting our website at www.sampsoncommunitytheatre.org
The 9th Annual SCT Theatre Camp will be held next week Aug. 4-7. This camp is for any child 4-15 and will be a fun and entertaining way to learn about theatre and performance. Not only will the campers be learning new theatre terms, the camp will end with a live free performance for the campers friends and families. For more information about the camp please contact Angela Martin at: firstname.lastname@example.org

Thoughts until next week:
• A bad attitude is like a flat tire. You can’t go anywhere until you change it.
• One of the simplest ways to stay happy is by letting go of the things that make you sad.
• It is not how much we do, but how much love we put in the doing. It is not how much we give, but how much love we put in the giving.
