Sampson High School Alumni Association members earlier this week sorted school supplies into 260 bookbags and backpacks in preparation for its free back-to-school drive set for Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Sampson Center on Barden Street, Clinton. Pictured, Alumni life member and former educator Eloise Grice loads up one of the bags with help from Avery Evans, a rising fourth grader at Sunset Avenue. Hundreds of notepads, composition books, binders and folders, along with thousands of pencils, pens and erasers were donated by Sampson High School alumni up and down the East Coast, and purchased through local donations. They were gathered and backpacks loaded at the American Legion. Supplies will benefit every school in the Clinton City Schools system, including Butler Avenue, L.C. Kerr, Sunset Avenue, Sampson Miiddle and Clinton High. A registration will take place before the event.
