MOUNT OLIVE — Columnist, interviewer, humorist, and author Drew Magary will be a guest lecturer at the University of Mount Olive on Wednesday, Nov. 9, at 4 p.m. in Southern Bank Auditorium in Raper Hall. The event is free and the public is invited to attend.
After months of meticulously screening over 30 books, The Postmortal by Magary was designated as the University of Mount Olive freshmen read by the Common Reading Selection Committee. The novel challenges the reader to consider what might happen to society if there were a “cure” for aging. While this prospect seems appealing in many ways, Magary weaves his tale in such a way that the reader is forced to consider the numerous pitfalls of living in a society in which people can get the “cure.” The story also discusses length of marriage, retirement age, and decreasing and disappearing resources.
During the Nov. 9 event, attendees will have a chance to meet the author and have their copy of the book signed during an autograph session with Magary immediately following the lecture. Audience members will also have the opportunity to ask questions at the event.
