This year, Family & Consumer Science (FCS) Agents in North Carolina are taking part in a challenge for the summer. FCS Agents will be participating in the Living Well Campaign, a public awareness campaign that promotes healthy living and making positive lifestyle choices. The Living Well Campaign originated from the National Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (NEAFCS) which began efforts in 2000 to develop this public awareness campaign to establish and maintain name recognition for the Extension FCS Programs and raise public awareness of Extension FCS services in local communities, statewide, and nationally.
FCS Agents will be taking on the challenge to practice a new healthy living strategy. We chose to practice something we may not currently do every day, such as get 8 hours of sleep, drink eight 8-oz glasses of water, exercise 30 minutes a day, or any other healthy lifestyle activity. The challenge is typically held in the week of March, but we chose to make this a two-month challenge prior to our State Conference. We invite you to join us in our efforts of living well!
Here’s how it works: pick a living well activity you don’t currently do. This can be anything from eliminating soda from your diet to walking 30 minutes a day, to running a 10k. Choose an activity that is reasonable for your lifestyle and that you feel you could stick with for 60 days. Next, record how your activity is working for you weekly. Think about how you feel, if you worked hard, and reflect on how this new activity is affecting you. Each week, try to push yourself a little harder. If you have a bad week and mess up, push yourself to do better the next week. Lastly, share what you’re doing! You can post on our Extension Facebook page, facebook.com/SampsonCES, shoot me an email or call me! I’d love to hear how you are participating in the Living Well challenge. With warm weather headed our way, this is the perfect time to pick a new activity to live a healthy lifestyle. You can also hashtag in any social media you post, #SampsonLivingWell! I look forward to living well with you.
