Mother’s Day is one week away, and you may find yourself struggling with what to get your mom as the perfect gift. While most moms will admit that taking a day off from all the stress and duties related to being a mother would be the ideal way to spend her day, here are just a few ideas of things that could also make mom happy.

Flowers

Expressing how important mom is to you can be hard, but fresh flowers are always a perfect win for most moms.

“We are finding many of our customers coming in and getting the welcome baskets as a Mother’s Day present,” Janet Sharpe with Sharpe and Davis said.

Hanging baskets, potted plants, and outside decor for the yard are all things Sharpe says many customers are purchasing as a gift for their mom for this holiday season. Ordering a fresh cut arrangement from a local florist isn’t a bad option either.

“Flowers are something you can give your mom and it will last,” Sharpe added.

Jewelry

Adding a touch of something shiny will make almost every mom happy. A good place to stop, according to Susanne Darden Lee at Annadale’s is in the Pandora gift section.

“Most moms love jewelry and the Pandora selection is a great place to start,” Lee said.

Massage

One part of good health care for women, according to Kristie Page, LMBT #5464, certified licensed massage therapist, is stress relief. One way to relieve stress is through massages. Giving mom a certificate or treating her to a body massage can be the perfect way to help her feel better during stressful times.

“Sometimes people are dealing with life-altering experiences,” Page said. “Stress can cause other body functions to change. Therefore, massages and stress relief are very important.”

Page, who works for Massage and Skin Care by Kristie at J Lily and Co., said there are unlimited benefits for massages. Massages can increase and improve circulation, alleviate pain, improve immune function, reduce stress, support effective digestion and breathing and diminish premenstrual symptoms, just to name a few benefits.

Facial

As a licensed esthetician, Page says facials are skin treatments that maintain and improve the quality of the skin. Much like body massages, facials can be very relaxing and a great way to take the stressed look off your face.

Other health benefits of facials include tension relief, increased circulation, an anti-aging method and relaxation.

“If mom has never had a facial before, she is missing out on some great benefits,” Page says. “Every mom will enjoy being able to take time to relax and have their skin looking better at the end.”

Both massages and facials allow mom to take much deserved time for herself.

“A massage and a facial guarantee that mom will get some uninterrupted pampering,” Page added.

Mother’s Day history

Mother’s Day became an official holiday in 1914 when president Woodrow Wilson signed an official proclamation declaring the second Sunday of May as a day to celebrate moms.

Other ideas for mom this year, maybe breakfast in bed, a day off from housework and chores, a nice dinner, watching a movie as a family, or for the adventurous mom — maybe skydiving. Whatever you decide to get your mom this year, just make sure it comes from the heart and it is given with love.
