Michael Mozingo, administrator of the Edith Bradshaw Scholarship, announced this week that Trey Powell is the 15th recipient of this year’s Bradshaw Scholarship award in the amount of $1,500.

Powell interviewed along with eight other candidates from three area Catholic churches: St. Mary of the Angels in Mount Olive, Immaculate Conception in Clinton and Our Lady of Guadalupe in Newton Grove.

This scholarship was established in 2003 in memory of Mozingo’s late mother Edith Bradshaw of Sampson County.

Powell is the 18-year-old son of Martin and Mary Anne Powell of Mount Olive. He has earned his Associate of Arts degree from Wayne Community College while completing his high school diploma at Wayne Early Middle College High School. He in an Eagle Scout and very active in his church, St. Mary of the Angels, as an altar server and youth leader. He plans to attend Western Carolina University in the fall to major in commercial music.
