A spring luncheon on April 22 was hosted by the Just-A-Mere Garden Club at Roberts Grove Church Fellowship Hall. Chairing the event were Dixie Honeycutt and Beverly Best.

In keeping with a 1942 photograph of the membership found in the club’s archives, club ladies opted to dress for this luncheon accordingly with hats and apparel typical for that time. In fact, there are members from the photo that have a daughter, granddaughter, or other family member in the current membership. Mrs. Dorothy Warren is the sole member in that photo who still is a club member.

As guests arrived at the luncheon, they viewed an enlarged framed copy of that same photograph that was flanked by vintage clothing, greenery, and other decorations.

Guests, too, had the opportunity to view the various decorated tables, as different as one’s creativity allowed. Each luncheon table was decorated by one or more club members. Centerpieces were made mostly with fresh flowers but some used fruit, vegetables, and other materials. Table linens and appointments were coordinated to complete the table’s appearance. Each table displayed the name of its business sponsor.

Guests were seated at the table of the hostess who invited them. Ladies were welcomed by Marie Warren, club president, afterwhich a catered buffet was enjoyed. The menu included strawberry garden salad, pork loin, red-skin mashed potatoes, green beans, corn pudding, yeast rolls, and iced tea. Lemon Delight was the dessert.

After being introduced, Ms. Martha Pierce from Clinton, was the afternoon’s speaker and her remarks were both light-hearted and inspirational.

Door prizes were awarded to some of the lucky ones. Approximately 125 ladies were in attendance.
