MOUNT OLIVE — The University of Mount Olive (UMO) Opera Theatre will present the fairy-tale opera Hansel and Gretel by Engelbert Humperdinck (1854-1921) on Friday, April 1 at 7:30 p.m. and on Saturday, April 2 at 3 p.m . in the Hazel Waters Kornegay Assembly Hall at 207 Wooten St. in Mount Olive.

Humperdinck’s 1893 masterpiece is based upon the Grimm brothers’ story of the same name, and this opera is full of recognizable folk-like melodies, most notably “Evening Prayer” (“When I Lay Me Down to Sleep”). This fully-staged performance will feature the University’s own voice students and instrumentalists.
