A Fayetteville man has been arrested in a break-in that occurred nearly six years ago at the Bonnetsville Kwik Stop.

Gene Cranston Chavis, 47, of 408 1/2 Robeson St., Fayetteville, was charged with breaking and entering, larceny and possession of stolen goods/property. He was placed in the Sampson County Detention Center under $10,000 secured bond for the felony charges.

According to reports, Chavis was taken into custody Friday on outstanding warrants from the break-in, which occurred in 2010 at the store, located at the corner of Roseboro Highway and Bonnetsville Road. Reports state warrants were issued on Oct. 8, 2010.

Small amounts of cash and miscellaneous items were reportedly stolen from the store during the incident.

“Evidence was gathered at the time and warrants were taken out on the suspect,” Sheriff’s Lt. Marcus Smith stated. “However, the suspect was not located until recently and taken into custody without incident by officers on outstanding warrants.”
