A former treasurer for Suttontown EMS has been arrested for allegedly making personal purchases with the rescue organization’s credit card over a period of four months starting back in October.

On Wednesday, Stacie Silva Chavis, 32, of 2060 Wade Stedman Road, Stedman, was taken into custody at the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office and charged with embezzlement, a felony offense. Her occupation is listed on her arrest report as “EMS worker.”

According to sheriff’s authorities, the arrest was the culmination of an investigation requested by Suttontown EMS regarding unauthorized transactions by Chavis, who served as the organization’s treasurer.

From October 2015 to February 2016, approximately $1,193.56 in unauthorized credit card purchases were made on the organization’s credit card for personal use. Suttontown EMS officials reported the activity on June 7, saying the a business VISA card was used for personal purchases. Reports stated that the fraudulent activities dated back to Oct. 1, 2015.

Chavis was served the charge at the Sheriff’s Office Wednesday and placed in the Sampson County Detention Center under $10,000 secured bond.

She was given a court date of July 1.
