The Law Enforcement Career Fairs hosted by Sampson Community College have proven to beneficial to both students and the community.

Friday marks the third such fair at SCC, and will be open to anyone who wants to attend, has an interest in criminal justice, law enforcement, fire and technical rescue and emergency and public service programs. This event will be held from 1-4 p.m., at the Warren Student Center on the college’s campus.

According to Jennifer Wiley, Criminal Justice Department Chair and BLET Director, the goal of the fair is to assist SCC’s Criminal Justice and Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) students gain employment, this event is to share career opportunities available within the local region. Students that are also interested in the upcoming accelerated Basic Law Enforcement Academy that started in January, and graduates in June, are also encouraged to attend to pick up an information packet and submit to reserve their seat for this highly demanded program.

“We have many law enforcement agencies coming to meet with anyone interested in working in law enforcement,” Wiley said. “We will also have a table for our Basic Law Enforcement Training academy for those interested to receive a packet with enrollment information.”

The fair, Wiley added, would benefit those seeking employment in the law enforcement field.

“It would be very beneficial to attend if seeking employment in these fields,” Wiley said. “As there will be employers there sharing their agency and discussing the steps to apply.”

During the fair, various agencies from criminal justice, law enforcement, fire and technical rescue and emergency/public service programs will be there in person to discuss the field and opportunities with students or those who might already have their degree or certificate. Wiley said the fair provides an excellent opportunity to students or graduates to learn more about the agency options in the community and network with agencies that might be looking for new employees

“The Criminal Justice Department did a career fair last year and the students and graduates had a great opportunity to meet the various agencies in the community,” Wiley said. “With this job fair, our current BLET class is getting ready to graduate, so it is terrific timing for them as well.”

According to Wiley, the college’s goal for this event is to host a wide representation from law enforcement agencies, state and federal criminal justice agencies, sheriff departments, private security businesses, investigation firms and other community programming that serve the courts readily available for immediate discussion about job and career opportunities.

“We encourage anyone interested in working or studying in criminal justice to attend,” Wiley said. “Specific to our students, as they graduate and begin to think about their career chapter, we want them to know of the opportunities available.”
