Pat Green has been a strong supporter of Sampson Community College for three decades. That support and dedication are the exact qualities that lead her to be recognized by the college’s Foundation as the Sampson Classic Service Award recipient.
Established in 2014 to recognize exceptional friends of Sampson Community College who exemplify the values of William M. Johnson, a much loved college supporter, the service award is given during the Sampson Classic Golf Tournament, which is played in memory of Johnson.
Green, who is the founding member of the Sampson Community College Foundation, has served the college in many capacities over the last 30 years. Not only has she served on the Foundation board, but she has been a student at the college, as well as an instructor and advocate.
“Pat Green is a 30-year devotee and stalwart supporter of all things Sampson Community College,” Dr. Paul Viser, Foundation president, said. “Her institutional memory has guided those like me who are newer additions, and I personally thank her for that. Over the years, her enthusiasm has inspired so many people who have worked with her. She richly deserves this recognition for her consistent service to one of Sampson County’s core institutions.”
According to Lisa Turlington, executive director of the Sampson Community College Foundation, Green has served on the Foundation board since it was established in 1986 and has worked in many roles including that of Board president in 1989 and 1990. In recent years, the college supporter has served on the Executive Board and as chairman of the Appropriations Committee where she oversees grant funding for faculty and staff.
Green sold 19 lots in the Greenwood Subdivision that were given to the Foundation, and has worked as a strong fundraiser, leading by example and believing in Sampson Community College.
“I know that I can always depend on Pat to pitch in on any Foundation project when needed,” Turlington said. “It is a pleasure and an honor to work with such a dedicated community servant. Pat gives her heart and soul not only to Sampson Community College, but to our community at large.”
