A Wilmington man wanted on an out-of-county robbery was arrested by Clinton Police officers after he was seen reportedly driving recklessly in a stolen vehicle in the city.
Mateo Domingo Clemente-Gomez, 26, of 6703 McCalley Court, Wilmington, has been charged with common law robbery, possession of stolen vehicle, open container in the passenger area and carrying a concealed weapon.
Clinton Police Chief Jay Tilley said the vehicle was stopped after officers received a report of a careless and reckless driver on Devane Street. An off-duty deputy identified the vehicle as being stolen. The driver, identified as Clemente-Gomez, was taken into custody on Devane Street on Monday night just before 9:30 p.m.
The Wilmington man was charged by officers with possession of stolen vehicle, open container in passenger area, careless and reckless driving, carrying a concealed weapon. The common law robbery and larceny of a motor vehicle offenses, off warrants issued from New Hanover County, were also served on Tuesday.
Reports state that an air-powered BB gun was seized from the vehicle during the traffic stop.
Clemente-Gomez was placed in the Sampson County Detention Center under $30,000 secured bond.
