Michael Boykin, known also as The ‘Prince’ of Gospel, is looking forward to the community hearing the gospel through music during the “5th Sunday Spotlight.”
“I think people are really going to enjoy the atmosphere,” Boykin said.
The event is scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 29, at the First Baptist Church multipurpose building, 900 College St., Clinton. Doors open at 2 p.m. Admission is $10. Boykin said the upcoming event gives local artists who are not heavily played on the radio a chance for their music ministry to be heard.
“That’s when I came up with the idea of Spotlight,” he said. “It’s to shine their musical gifts and to share their musical ministry.”
Performers include PC & Perfect Praise; Billy Ray & The New Gospelaires; United; Wendy Peterson & Unity; and Donnie & The Voices of God’s Untouchables. Elder Patrick Stewart will serve as the guest MC. Stewart is the host of the show “The Sanctified Preacher.”
“They have been blessed musically and they enjoy the music ministry of these different artists,” Boykin said. “Everyone has their own opinion of things, but I like to think that people who are born again come to worship in spirit and in truth.”
Boykin plans to host the event every fifth Sunday in the future to give artists an opportunity to promote themselves.
He performs with The Mighty Voices and hosts several musical events throughout the year. Boykin is the son of two pastors and became involved with music as a youth. Members of the group began performing in local choirs and gospel groups.
