Local drug agents recently made two separate heroin-related arrests following traffic stops.

The first was made around 9 p.m. Thursday.

William Blake Tanner, 19, of 84 Crystal Sand Lane, Dunn, was charged with possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver heroin, maintaining a vehicle for the storage of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and carrying a concealed weapon.

Sampson County Sheriff’s agents conducting an investigation into suspicious activity at the Dollar General parking lot on U.S. 421. During the investigation, agents found probable cause to search the vehicle and located about 0.8 grams of heroin, according to reports. A handgun was also seized. Another suspect was charged with possession of paraphernalia.

Tanner’s bond was set at $25,000 secured.

In a separate incident, narcotics agents conducted a traffic stop on Roseboro Highway at around 5:30 p.m. Friday for a traffic violation. During the stop, agents discovered a needle that contained heroin.

Matthew Douglas Newgent, 26, of 46 Mandolin Lane, Roseboro, was charged with possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia. One gram of heroin was reportedly seized. His bond was set at $5,000.

According to the N.C. Department of Public Safety, Newgent does have a history of convictions in Sampson, including felony drug possession, drug trafficking, breaking and entering and larceny.
