On Sunday, May 7, Dr. Vernon T. Williams awarded the Leondias T. Williams Memorial Scholarship to Brittany Alexis Rayner at Keathern Missionary Baptist Church in Harrells.

Rayner is a senior at Clinton High where she excels academically and athletically. She maintains a 3.57 GPA and is an active member of the cheerleading squad, Ebony Club, and International Thespian Club. Rayner is the daughter of Dylan and Andrea Rayner and plans to attend Winston Salem State University in the fall to major in nursing.

The Leondias T. Williams Memorial Scholarship Foundation Incorporated was founded in 2006 with a primary focus of helping youth pursue academic studies beyond high school. The LTW Scholarship is awarded each May at Keathern Missionary Baptist Church. To date the scholarship committee has awarded 17 scholarships totaling more than $7,000.

In order to apply for the LTW Scholarship, students must:

• Be a graduating high school senior with at least a 3.0 GPA

• Be an active participant in school activities

• Volunteer in the community

• Submit two letters of recommendation from their guidance counselor, community service representative, school advisor, teacher, or minister

• Submit a personal essay

• Provide a current résumé
