It’s always a bit depressing when the set of a production is taken down, but that is exactly what happened this past Sunday afternoon when most of the adults and some of the children associated with “Honk, Jr.” were busy for an hour or so after the curtains closed on the last of 10 shows of the beloved stage rendition of Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale of “The Ugly Duckling”.

It was a lovely show with good music, fine dancing and colorful costumes — yellow ones for the ducklings, white ones for the swans, green ones for the frog, etc. Linda Carr is to be commended for her direction of a fine group of 35 youngsters who never lost their enthusiasm.

There are so many people involved in a show of this caliber it is difficult to name them all but we thank the mothers who helped in the green room, the crew on the lights and sounds, the concession workers, and Jane Usher who entertained the audiences during intermission by playing her violin to much applause. Its been a great show and we thank Star Communications for their sponsorship.

Next Saturday, July 15, at 10 a.m. and next Sunday, July 16, at 2 p.m. Angela Martin will hold auditions for “Seussical”, a musical that will have shows the last weekend of August and the first weekend of September. Singers and dancers come on down and have fun at the Sampson Community Theater.

Thoughts until next week

It is better to walk alone than with a crowd going in the wrong direction.

Be thankful for the bad things in life, for they opened your eyes to the good things you weren’t paying attention to before.

“What day is it?” asked Pooh. “It’s today” squeaked Piglet. “My favorite day” said Pooh.
