Sampson County Sheriff’s deputies have made an arrest in the Friday morning robbery of a Roseboro bank.
According to Capt. Eric Pope, just before 9:30 a.m. Friday, a man entered the First Citizens Bank, located at 304 E. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Roseboro, and approached the teller with a bag.
“The suspect presented the teller with a note claiming to have a bomb and demanding cash,” Pope stated in a release. “The suspect made off with an undisclosed amount of cash driving a four-door sliver/grey sedan.”
Jonathan Andrew Bruce, 23, of Wade has been detained in the incident.
Pope said bank tellers were observant and able to provide the registration number from the vehicle’s plate. From that, officers were able to identify Bruce as the suspect. Deputies from Cumberland County went to Bruce’s residence and while there, observed the suspect drive by. Deputies followed him and stopped him, eventually detaining him and turning him over to the Sampson County investigators.
“The bank tellers who were able to get the license plate and provide accurate suspect descriptions were the key to solving this robbery as their assistance in taking Bruce into custody,” Sampson County sheriff Jimmy Thornton said.
