Sampson Community College students have less than two weeks to prepare for the upcoming fall semester.

According to Blair Hairr, dean of Student Services, registration for the fall semester will be held Aug. 9-10. While fall enrollment is typically higher than other semesters, the summer enrollment numbers were up, and Hairr said there are hopes for the increase to continue.

As of Aug. 1, 1,200 students had participated in early registration for the fall semester. On average, Hairr said the college has around 300 students who register during the late registration process.

“Faculty and staff are diligently working to prepare for registration week, as it is one of the most exciting times of the year,” Hairr said.

The fall enrollment for 2016 was 1,453 students. Hairr said the college is hoping for an increased enrollment for fall 2017, but the exact numbers can not be determined until after final day of registration, Aug. 10.

“The mission of Sampson Community College is to provide accessible and affordable education, workforce training, and lifelong enrichment,” Hairr explained. “This mission is accomplished through effective teaching, student support, public outreach, and partnering with others to improve the quality of life for the people of Sampson County.”

As part of the enrollment process, Hairr highlighted some dates students needed to be reminded of as the beginning day of classes is just around the corner.

Returning students must meet with a program advisor Wednesday, Aug. 9 from 9 a.m – 1 p.m. or 4-7 p.m. New students will register Thursday, Aug. 10, after attending new student orientation at 9 a.m., 2 p.m. or online. Students needing schedule adjustments must contact a program advisor on Friday, Aug. 11, from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

At the new student orientation, Hairr said program advisors will help new students select classes that are of interest to them and applicable to their desired program of study. Students who are not quite sure what degree to seek are welcome to take general education courses that will get them started on a path while they explore a variety of opportunities for their major.

The payment deadline for returning students is 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 9. New students must pay tuition and fees by 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 10. Payments can be made via WebAdvisor or in the business office located on the campus. Students should view their account balance and their financial aid award in WebAdvisor. Payments not received by the payment deadline will result in a registration cancellation.

According to Hairr, if a student has not received any type of financial aid award letter, they must be prepared to pay out-of-pocket for tuition, books, and fees by the payment deadline. Books will be made available at the student bookstore for students Aug. 9-10 from 9 a.m. – 7 p.m.

Additionally, the dean said that prospective students who have not completed the admissions process should visit the college’s website for guidance and must be prepared to pay out-of-pocket for tuition, books and fees.
