The Sampson Community Theater is currently in rehearsals for a popular show that is family entertainment at its best and has its roots in the “Dr. Suess” books that many of us have so much enjoyed when we read them ourselves or read them to our children.
“Suessical The Musical” opens with cast A performing on Aug. 18, which leaves them only two weeks to perfect their dances and singing and they are rehearsing with vigor. Anne Wicke and her helpers have spent many hours painting a very colorful backdrop and side panels which you will have to admire when you attend one or more of the 12 performances made possible by the fine folks at Performance Dodge/Ford who are our commercial sponsors for this show.
Songs such as “Dr. Love”, “Armed and Extremely Dangerous” and “Love Thang” are a few of the Disco songs recorded in the early 70’s and ‘80’s by First Choice, a Philadelphia female recording group. The members of the group were recently honored by receiving the “Legends Of Vinyl” award for their contribution to the musical industry and House/Disco era. Their recordings can be heard on oldie radio stations and is house music in New York, Chicago, Boston and many other sites.
We were delighted to learn that one of our board members (and singer, actor and director) who was a member of First Choice from 1973 until 1980 and is still considered an original member and has been honored by receiving a certificate that she will be proud of forever. We are proud of Ursula Herring for receiving the honor and for her continued interest by being on our working Board. You go girl!
With a show as popular as “Seussical” we suggest you get your tickets as soon as possible to avoid being disappointed. Tickets are available now at Inkspot and Matthew’s Gifts.

Thoughts until next week
It’s nice to be important but it’s more important to be nice.
Don’t be yourself…be someone nicer.
Today, give a stranger one of your smiles…It may be the only sunshine they see all day.
