Eleven young ladies competed in the 13th Miss Harrells Christian Academy Pageant on Saturday, Oct. 21, to a packed house and an enthusiastic crowd. In the end, freshman Olivia Toler was crowned Miss HCA; eighth grader Anna Edwards was crowned Junior Miss; fifth grader Jewel Carr was crowned Little Miss; and second grader Bella Jernigan was crowned Tiny Miss.

Additional winners included Georgia Pope for the Miss Congeniality award and Olivia Matthews for the Extra Effort award and Sponsorship award. Matthews sold the most tickets to the pageant and secured $2,025 worth of donations to the pageant fund. More than $9,000 donations were secured by pageant contestants in total.

Pageant coordinator Margo Bowker, music teacher at Harrells, voiced her appreciation for this years’ group of girls.

“Our new Tiny Miss HCA Bella Jernigan wowed the judges with her upbeat jazz routine during talent! Jewell Carr, our new Little Miss HCA, showed great confidence during her tap routine and scored perfect 10’s from the three judges! Jr Miss HCA Anna Edwards and Miss HCA Olivia Tolar both presented vocal solos that were amazing!”

All 11 contestants were so brave and so excited to show off the gifts God has given them.

Bowker shared the following verse with our panel of judges and asked them to keep it close to their hearts during each phase of the competition: “Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.” (1 Peter 3:3-4)

In their first outing, members of the new sister queen court will be representing and promoting HCA at the Harrells community day parade this Saturday.
