SCC graduate comes home to recruit

Officer Ramiro Velasquez from the Dunn Police Department visited the Basic Law Enforcement Training Academy this week to recruit for the department. Velasquez is a graduate of Sampson Community College’s BLET academy and college officials called him an ‘excellent representation’ of SCC’s job placement ability. Velasquez shared information about the department and hiring process as well as provided encouragement to the current students about their studies and upcoming state exam in January. ‘We are very proud of this student,’ said Jennifer Wiley, division chair of Business and Occupational Technologies Programs at SCC. She heads up the BLET program. “Any time they come back in uniform or with their new badge,’ said Wiley, ‘it is always exciting for the academy.’
