Sampson County Sheriff’s authorities are investigating a shooting death that occurred Friday night, in which a male was found inside his Faison-area home, the apparent victim of a gunshot wound.
The incident occurred on Friday, sometime after 10 p.m., according to information released by sheriff’s officials on Monday. Deputies responded to a shooting incident at 144 Calvin Hobbs Road, Faison, and upon their arrival, found a male subject deceased inside the residence from “an apparent gunshot wound.”
At press time, little more was known and the name of the victim was not disclosed. Sampson County Medical Examiner Dr. Carl Barr was at the scene early Monday morning and did examine the body. He said it appeared to be a single shotgun wound, which entered in the area of the victim’s back, at an angle, exiting the opposite shoulder.
“It was not a straight-in shot,” Dr. Barr stated. “I think he died pretty quickly.”
It was unclear what led to the shooting, however it was believed the shooting may have followed a domestic dispute.
“At this time the incident is currently under investigation,” a statement from the Sheriff’s Office read, “and the names and other information are being withheld pending the investigation.”
