The Sampson Community Theater’s next production is titled “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” and is based on a children’s book written by Barbara Robinson which was published in 1972.

The book begins with the statement that “The Herdmans were absolutely the worse kids in the history of the world. They lied and stole and smoked cigars (even the girls) and talked dirty and cussed their teachers and took the name of the Lord in vain and set fire to Fred Shoemaker’s old broken-down toolhouse.”

Angela Martin will be directing two different casts in this classical Christmas play that really strikes a chord about the true meaning of Christ’s birth. One cast will be a standard cast which has a few adults in it while the other cast will have mostly teenagers and a few children.

Each cast will perform four shows on the two separate weekends which includes matinees on Saturday and Sunday and 8 p.m. shows on Friday and Saturday. Jordan Shopping Center and Matthews Gifts are the generous sponsors of “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” and we thank them wholeheartedly for their support of the live arts in our county.

Although the schedule is incomplete some of the shows at the Sampson Community Theater in 2016 will include “Little Women” in February directed by L.J. Carr, “I Oughta Be In Pictures” a Neil Simon adult comedy directed by Tom Wilbur in April, “How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying” in late summer directed by Angela Martin and “Elf, Jr.” in December directed by Angela Martin. More next week in this column.

Kathy Day, a board member and treasurer of the board, will be performing at the Temple Theater in Sanford as Grandma Addams in “The Addams Family”. This show opened Oct. 15 and runs through Nov. 1. If you would like to attend, tickets may be purchased by calling the Temple Theater Box office at 919-774-4512. Kathy is a veteran of the stage and she and her daughter Sarah are seen frequently as actors on our stage. This link is a promo sample of the show:

Enjoy life. It has an expiration date.

Those who let things happen usually lose to those who make things happen..

No two persons ever read the same book.
