Christmas pageant enters first weekend

By Bruce Caldwell - Contributing columnist

“The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” opens at the Sampson Community Theater this Friday, Nov. 13 at 8 p.m. with other shows at 8 p.m. on Nov. 14, 20, and 21 with matinees at 3 p.m. on Nov. 14, 15, 21 and 22 for a total of eight performances.

There are two casts and cast A will be performing this weekend and cast B will perform next weekend. Cast A had dress rehearsals this week while cast B finished learning their lines. Next week cast B will have dress rehearsals while cast A will be shopping for a turkey for Thanksgiving.

The Herdman kids in each cast have been having the most fun because they could fight, fuss, complain. throw things and in general act like a bunch of kids. They are the meat of this show though because they along with the audience learn a lot about Christmas that makes us appreciate the season more and if for no other reason makes the show a must see. You’ll be glad you did and will approach the upcoming season with a smile on your face.

Thanks to Jordan Shopping Plaza and Matthews Gifts for their sponsorship of this holiday classic.

Since “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” is the last show of our 2015 season, it’s time to become a new patron sponsor or renew your patron sponsor tickets for our 2016 season. A patron sponsor ticket allows two people to attend all of our shows at a reduced rate and also get the name of the patron or business in all our programs. You may purchase your 2016 patron sponsor tickets by contacting any Board member or they will be available in November at the theater during our next show. Our proposed 2016 shows are listed below.

Dr. L.J. Carr, the director of “Little Women” will hold auditions on Tuesday, Dec. 1 at 6 p.m. She needs some strong male and female singers for this show which will open in February 2016.

Thoughts until next week:

Every generation imagines itself to be more intelligent than the one that went before it, and wiser than the one that comes after it.

An optimist sees an opportunity in every calamity; A pessimist sees a calamity in every opportunity.

“Everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it. — Confucius (551-479 BC)
