Sampson Community College officials announced this week that they have selected three students for the school’s Student Ambassador Scholarship Program. Jammillett Aguirre, Jamie Vancil, and Gloria Williams have all been chosen to serve as official ambassadors for the community college and the Sampson Community College Foundation.
The Ambassador Scholarship Program was established by the Foundation in 2010 and recipients help with college-sponsored events including student registration and orientation, donor recognition events, graduation and other school and Foundation-sponsored events. Students chosen must maintain a 2.5 GPA and must have completed one full semester as a student at SCC.
The students were nominated by SCC faculty and staff members, and were interviewed by a selection committee based on the above criteria. Each recipient will receive scholarship funding for fall 2015 and spring 2016 semesters to apply toward tuition, fees, supplies and books.
Aguirre, of Clinton, is a student in the School-Age Education Program and was nominated for her strong leadership skills and willingness to help others. Vancil, of Roseboro, is a criminal justice student and is very involved in student activities on campus.Williams, of Clinton, is a student in the School-Age Education Program and was chosen for her kindness, ambition and volunteerism.
“All of these student leaders are very impressive and I look forward to introducing them to the Foundation directors,” said Lisa Turlington, SCC Foundation executive director. “They truly are ambassadors for the college as they represent our student body in the community.”
All three students say they are excited about the recognition and are looking forward to serving SCC, which has already afforded them so many opportunities.
“Not only will they offer their service working with the Foundation and college, but they will also gain valuable experience and build their leadership skills” noted Holly Brewington, Student Government Association advisor. “I’m confident that they will represent the College well and will make excellent Ambassadors for SCC”
