Star Telephone recently donated money to help local families throughout the county.

The company and its employees donated $910 to the local Christmas Cheer Fund, a program from Sampson County’s Department of Social Services (DSS). Its purpose is to assist organizations and individuals that helps foster children and others enjoy Christmas. The DSS Christmas party was held Dec. 21 for children.

Lyman Horne, Star Communications General Manager, said money is collected from the employees during the holiday season. Funds were also shared with Bladen County, which is a major service territory for Star Communications.

“It’s our way of giving back to the community that’s been so good to us,” Horne said. “It’s where we live and work and raise our children. Anything we do to make our community stronger, helps everyone in the community.

DSS’s purpose is to help residents through a variety of programs such as income maintenance services and child care, health support and foster care.

Star Communications provides a variety of services for the community. Some of them include scholarship programs, donating and showing support to Sampson Community College’s foundation and the Clinton-Sampson Chamber of Commerce and food drives.
