Geoffrey Tart of Hobbton High School was named Sampson County Schools’ Teacher of the Month for March.
“At the early age of 2 I was a music maker and a dreamer of dreams,” Tart said. “Music was a passion of mine at a very early age. From getting upset about not going to the local football game and then my father putting me on his shoulders for me to see over the fence to see the halftime show or sitting and watching a concert, music was life to me. I would march around the house in a uniform and toy instrument making me the happiest child in the world.”
The passion of music and music education is still very important in his life.
“I had a lot of support from my directors and family growing up to fulfill my dreams,” Tart said. “In turn, I support and want nothing but the best for all my students. All students have talent and all students can learn. There is no greater feeling than seeing my students being successful in the classroom and in performances. Experiencing my students celebrate because the Hobbton High School Marching Band won a Grand Champion title is absolutely the best feeling and makes all the work worth while. It is my hope to make the world a better place through my music and the music I teach.”
