A Roseboro woman is facing felony sex offenses including statutory rape of a child following a Sampson County Sheriff’s Office investigation.

Heather Brooklyn Wood, 21, of 116 Rainbow Lane, Roseboro, was charged with statutory rape of child, statutory sex offense with child and sodomy (crime against nature), all felony offenses. Wood was served at the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office on Friday, according to reports filed Monday.

She was placed in the Sampson County Detention Center under $50,000 secured bond and given a court date of May 20.

Limited information is often given in such cases so as to protect the victims, especially those who are underage. Sheriff’s Lt. Marcus Smith noted that the victim in the incident was under 16 years of age and not related to Wood, but nothing else was disclosed about the case.

“The incident occurred with a non-family (member) who sexually assaulted a male victim under the age of 16,” Smith stated.

Warrants were issued Friday and served the same day. Smith said Monday that no further information on the case was available.
